Hi everyone,

A big thank you to all who were able to join us on Saturday April 8 2006 for the fundraiser in honor of Joanne Chirichiello. We raised over $10000 benefiting the Go Red For Women Movement of the American Heart Association (AHA).

The Fred Astaire Dance Studios worldwide offer you the finest social and competitive dance instruction available anywhere. But we never forget that dance is fun.

SPECIALTY AND SPECIAL REQUEST CLASSES

In our most recent specialty class we got down and groovy with some cool Funk vibes from the seventies. Ask Elizabeth about the next class!

We offer many specialty classes including Funk, Argentine Tango, Jazz, Rock n Roll, Jump Jive and Wail, even something specially aimed at our youth students. If you have any requests let us know. Once we have a few requests we'll put on a group class.

SHOWCASE BALLS

Our latest Showcase Ball was on Saturday September 24 2005. The place was packed out with our Students and their Friends and Families. As well as general dancing and staff shows there were no less than fifteen student showcases of the most fabulous quality and diversity. And hats off to the Performance Team who have worked hard together to perfect a really entertaining cabaret. Sapphire Manor were our caterers for the evening and the hot and cold dishes they produced were delicious. Pictures | Video clip

Fred Astaire Norwood is also proud to announce the winner of the Joanne Chirichiello Scholarship, donated in her memory, by her family and friends. Congratulations to Jessica, who won with her essay 'Why I Love Dancing'. Jessica received a course of ten private lessons, and then danced in the Showcase Ball. You can read some of the essays submitted, including Jessica's. It was hard chosing the winner because all were inspiring but this year, it was Jessica.

There are some great pictures from the previous showcase at http://www.elledance.com/fads04302005/

We host regular balls with general dancing and staff cabarets. The highlights are always the showcase of performances from our students. These show just how much our students can progress in their dancing in just a short time. The showcase ball is held in the studio so its a great way to meet and get to know fellow students. Pictures

Competition News:

There are a few pictures from the August 2005 competition in Cambridge. We will add some more later.

Pictures from the March 2005 Competition in Springfield.

Pictures from the 21st Tristar Dance Championships November 19th and 20th 2004 in beautiful Mystic Connecticut,

The August 2004 Competition, the New England Classic Colonial at the Sheraton Hotel Leominster on August 6-7th, was another roaring success. Ruth was particularly foxy in the role of Roxy Hart from the musical Chicago. Ula ...la! for Mrs Ula Moyseowicz who won the open International Championship. Both ladies were partnered by the peerless Istvan. Beautiful dancing once again. Congratulations to Ivan and Elizabeth for dancing a fabulous foxtrot and a mischevious mambo in the mixed novice comp. Ian and Elizabeth wowed the audience with the abstract contemporary interpretation of the tango in their show Kashmir. The Banquet went with a bang! The New England staff show was back with a vengance... hats off to all who performed in it, including our very own Ian, Ivan and Elizabeth. Thanks also to Xavier for making sure everyone had a ball! The guest performers, Carolina and Felipe Telone, danced with passion and sensuality ... a wonderful display of connection and sensitivity. They were a pleasure to watch. Congratulations to the new organisers Kim and Gina who continued Beth's fantastic work of previous years. We look forward to the next event in November! We have just a few pictures from this competition

Eugene Katsevman and Maria Manusova March 19th-21st 2004 We joined other New England Studios at the Sheraton Hotel, Springfield Massachusetts for the 33rd New England Dancesport Championships. The beautifully decorated Ballroom was a fitting backdrop to the high energy competitions. After all the hard work, we all enjoyed a sumptuous banquet and were treated to a wonderful show from Eugene Katsevman and Maria Manusova, two of the world's top amateur Latin dancers. Then everyone got a chance to party and show off all they have learned at the Fred Astaire Studios.

Link to picture gallery November 21st-23rd 2003 We went the 20th Tri-Star Dansport Championships in Leominster Massachusetts at the Sheraton Hotel. After adding the last touches of finesse, hair, makeup and pom poms for cheering we headed downstairs to the competition floor. What a buzz! We all had a great time Jan, Ruth, Joanne, Judith, and Michelle danced wonderfully. Istvan certainly did a great job to prepare everyone and they did him and themselves proud. The Saturday Night Banquet gave us all a chance to get to know new friends and to dance till we dropped. The floorshow from the New England professionals was excellent and David Howland and Vivienne Ramsey were spectacular as ever. Want to see pictures from the Competition and around the studio?

Friday Dance Parties:

The Friday Dance Party is held each Friday night from 9:00-10:30 pm. These practices are very important because they teach you how to identify what dance goes to what kind of music as well as how to move around the crowded dance floor. It is a great way to learn by watching and actually getting out there. All the instructors are there to help you to get the most out of your dancing! The Friday Dance Party is also a chance to let your hair down.
